This series is designed for those who have the basics of quilting down and want to take their skills to the next level! We'll work all the way from fabric selection through binding, with all the steps in between. We'll focus on terminology, and technique in order to provide solid foundations to skill build upon. When you finish the class, you will have the skills to take on new projects with confidence in your quilt making journey. This is an excellent refresher in basics even if you have quilting experience.

  • How to read a quilt pattern and select appropriate fabric
  • How to measure and cut accurately
  • How to join, press, and trim with precision
  • Techniques for quilting and binding that guarantee great results
  • 1 Fat Quarter bundle of ~20 fat quarters (you can get by with as little as 10 if you repeat fabrics)
  • ¼ yard additional fabric for outside log in Log Cabin block. (we will need both the FQ and yardage to complete this round. They FQ will be sufficient for all other sections of this block.
  • 1 ½ yard background fabric
  • ¼ yard inner border
  • ¾ yard second border
  • ½ yard binding
  • Batting 52 x 64
  • 3 ¼ yard backing

  • Pattern: Forty Fabulous Years by Eleanor Burns
  • General sewing supplies for class (sewing machine in good working order, thread, rotary cutter and mat, rulers, iron & pressing mat, scissors/snips, pins, seam ripper, spare needles/bobbins, Best Press/Precision/Starch alternative spray, Frixion pen or other marking tool)
  • ¼ inch foot
  • Cotton Thread (50wt Aurifil or 60wt Quilters Select in a light neutral color)
  • 45mm rotary cutter
  • 6x24 ruler
  • 12 ½ square ruler
  • Straight pins (I prefer glass head – I do not like clips for quilting)
  • Frixion Marking pen

See additional list of “very nice to haves” but not required:
  • 80/12 sharp machine needles
  • Best press or spray sizing
  • Walking foot or free motion quilting foot (we will talk about these techniques in class so you may wish to wait to purchase one or the other or both when we discuss in class)
  • Pen/notepad to take notes on or sticky notes to add notes to your book
